This 1950–1960 mantel clock has a painted wooden case with a gold finish and a mechanical movement that strikes the hours and half-hours.
Description from the seller
Elegant antique chiming mantel clock, with a wooden case finished in gold-toned paint, richly adorned with floral motifs and decorative relief figures along the sides. These side figures add character and depth to the composition, while the architectural shape of the case and the dial ornaments emphasize its classical aesthetic.
The dial features elaborately crafted numerals and hands. The clock is equipped with a wind-up mechanical movement, a pendulum, and a stainless steel chime rod system. It strikes the number of hours on the hour and also marks the half-hours.
Inside the back door, there is a label mentioning the Cav. Cortaldo jewelry and watchmaking shop, Via Borgaro 72, Turin, Italy. This inscription attests to its commercial provenance, without allowing to attribute the manufacture with certainty to an Italian workshop.
The mechanism is functional. The case shows scratches and signs of wear, particularly at the back, indicating its use and age.
This clock constitutes an interesting decorative piece for lovers of antique mechanical clockmaking and decorative objects with painted decoration.
Condition: traces of use and visible scratches; see photos as they are part of the description.
