REYMOND Carlos (1884-1970)
" Le Croisic, quai de la Poissonnerie "
Watercolour on paper,
Signed bottom left,
Beautiful luminous work by Carlos Reymond depicting a view of the port and basin called "Bassin Hervé Rielle" of Le Croisic. The contrast of colors and the play of light faithfully convey the maritime atmosphere of the place.
From the age of 16, Carlos Reymond received encouragement and guidance from the painter Claude Monet. He began his career with views of Paris in a Neo-Impressionist style.
He settled in 1903 in Saint-Tropez. He met painters Paul Signac, Louis Valtat, Charles Camoin, Henri Manguin and André Dunoyer de Segonzac who regularly stayed in Saint-Tropez. He studied with Signac in divisionism without wanting to confine himself to this art movement.
After the war, Carlos Reymond married in 1919 the eldest daughter of the painter Henri Lebasque, Marthe Lebasque.
He travels to Italy, North Africa, Spain and Brittany, while remaining attached to the south of France.
In 1941, he settled with his wife in Nice in the Cimiez neighborhood, beside the home of his friend the painter Henri Matisse.
Carlos Reymond participated in the Salon des Indépendants from 1905 to 1921 and in solo exhibitions in Paris from 1922 to 1960.
A painter strongly linked to Impressionism with his vibrant colors, Carlos Reymond enjoys recognition of his art among his peers.
