Description from the seller

Martinus Nefkens was born on June 1, 1866, in Hedikhuizen (North Brabant) and died on December 24, 1941, in Ede.

From an early age he worked for a painting company. Because his artistic aspirations ran higher, he enrolled at the Antwerp Drawing Academy. Later he worked in the studio of H.W. Mesdag, the famous painter of the Hague School.

After settling in Amsterdam, his career took off. He began selling and became a member of the artists' societies Ars et Amicitiae and St. Lucasgilde.

From 1898 Martinus Nefkens spent summers on the Veluwe, in Lunteren. There he painted impressionist landscapes and rural genre scenes in the style of the Hague School.

With frame: 63 cm x 73 cm.
