Juan Chamizo’s 2026 original acrylic painting *Arnolfini, (XXL)* is a hand-signed contemporary portrait inspired by Van Eyck’s work of the same name.
Description from the seller
Original, unique piece, with certificate of authenticity.
Giovanni de Arrigo Arnolfini, a wealthy Italian merchant (native of Lucca), settled in Bruges around 1421. He held important positions at the court of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, to whose archduchy the Netherlands then belonged.
This work belongs to a series based on iconic portraits. It is an appropriation of Van Eyck's work of the same name and an exercise or pretext about a new path in my work. Here the goal is to stylize and simplify; the background is reduced to a flat splash of color, the clothing is synthesized in the same way or resolved in an abstract form, the face is rendered with textures that give movement to the character and create an harmony of opposites, the drawing is simplified. A figurative work with an expressionist flavor is recognizable.
Note: Because of its large format (XXL) and for its own protection, the work is shipped without a frame, rolled inside a tube with overall approximate dimensions of 136x116x0.5 cm.
