AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Giovanni Stanchi (Rome 1608 – circa 1673) workshop of
Vase of flowers
Oil on canvas
60 x 50.5 cm

Giovanni, together with his brothers Niccolò and Angelo, formed a family-tied workshop that is often listed in payments of the period as the “Famiglia Stanchi.” Of the three, Giovanni emerges as the most gifted, and he worked for the Barberini, the Chigi, and the Colonna. In 1660 he collaborated with Mario Nuzzi, known as Mario dei Fiori, and with Carlo Maratta, the author of putti, on the creation of the mirrors in the gallery of Palazzo Colonna. The presence of the Stanchi is not limited to Rome; Giovanni is credited with the two garlands, now at Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi, while Niccolò, a skilled decorator, frescoed in the Siena area and in Florence for Flavio Chigi. Their training has not yet been defined, but they are linked to Giovanni Battista Crescenti and Pietro Paolo Bozzi, called Il Gobbo dei Carracci, while the luminosity of the flowers seems to derive from the innovations introduced in Italy by Daniel Seghers.
