Description from the seller

This oil painting on canvas is a modern reinterpretation of the classical theme of Apollo and Daphne

They are depicted running, Apollo close behind Daphne, one hand reaching forward as if almost touching her. Daphne is in the foreground with a furrowed expression, aware of her imminent fate.
The first branches and leaves sprout from their hands and feet; it all happens in a matter of seconds, and the pathos is palpable.

The background is black, with no reference to space or time. Beneath the couple's feet there is a hint of a reflection; it could be a mirror or perhaps water... The whole scene seems to exist outside of time and space, like the scene of rejected love that has been repeated for centuries, always the same yet different every time.

Olimpia loves exploring the classical themes of painting throughout the ages, giving them her own interpretation through strong lighting and contrasts, and highly expressive figures.

The canvas measures 140 x 80 cm and is shipped rolled in a tube, with a certificate of authenticity.

Shipping outside the EU is not available. Orders from outside the EU will be canceled!

Seller's Story

I am Elisa Brindani, a figurative painter. The focus of my work is the female figure, a theme I explore in various forms: from dance, to portrait, to ethnic atmospheres. I use oil paints and work with both brushes and a palette knife.
