POPSAN - Pikachu in a Hotel Room at Night (ホテルの夜のピカチュウ) - UNIQUE WORK

THERE IS ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

On this square format, Popsan places Pikachu, the Pokémon mascot, in a hotel room in the middle of the night. Sitting on the edge of the bed, paws folded on the belly, he has half-closed eyes and a puckered mouth: he sulks, gaze dropped to the floor. Behind him, his electric bolt-shaped tail is plugged in. A black cord runs from the bedside lamp, just under the lampshade, and sticks into its tip, as if he were the one making the bulb shine. Under the white lampshade, the lamp casts a yellow light that carves out a large rectangular bright area on the wall, above the dark wood headboard; beside it waits an old black telephone and, higher up, a frame where gray buildings stand tall.
To the right, bordered by a heavy blue-cadet curtain, the window overlooks a city asleep, a few towers with still-lit windows. A dark green bedspread, crumpled white sheets, a chair and a small round table in the foreground complete the room. Everything sits between this electric yellow and the deep blues of the night: a traveler’s solitude, with a hint of humor.

A piece that is at once humorous and melancholic, ideal for bringing a touch of nocturnal pop culture to an interior of a collector who loves Pokémon.

About Popsan (Medsan):
Popsan and Medsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Popsan, he reinterprets icons of pop culture by blending pop art, Japanese art and anachronisms; under the name Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy. His pop works, long presented on Catawiki under the name Medsan, now appear under their own signature, Popsan. He creates at Atelier Joconde, a family-run artists’ workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstract).
