DESCRIPTION: I present at auction a PRECIOUS AND LUXURIOUS EXEMPLAR of one of the most spectacular, complete, and coveted Victorian family Bibles of the era: THE COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY BIBLE, containing the text of the Authorized Version (King James Bible) accompanied by copious critical, explanatory notes and practical reflections by Dr. David Davidson. This spectacular Bible was published in London by the famous firm Blackie & Son circa 1870, making it 156 years old.

Our Bible is a colossal-volume edition, 36 x 27 cm, weighing over 7 kg. It is conceived as the spiritual and patrimonial axis of the Victorian home, bound with imposing and luxurious presence and richly illustrated with a monumental gallery of sacred art and historical cartography: 2 BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVED COVERS, 60 BEAUTIFUL BLACK-AND-WHITE PLATES, and 9 COLOR MAPS.

GALLERY OF ART, ENGRAVINGS, AND CARTOGRAPHY: The book constitutes a true pinacotheca engraved on steel on full page by leading engraving masters of the era, such as W. & F. Holl. We will find:

• Masterpieces of Universal Painting: Our Bible includes famous compositions based on great geniuses of art history, highlighting reproductions of works by LEONARDO DA VINCI (The Last Supper and Christ among the Doctors) or the relevant German Romantic painter Eduard Bendemann with "Jeremiah Lamenting over the Fall of Jerusalem," among other historic biblical scenes.

• Historical Biblical Cartography: It contains a distinguished collection of color maps printed on engraved plates detailing the Land of Canaan, the journeys and geographical routes of Saint Paul, and meticulous topographical plans of ancient and modern Jerusalem.
