Statue, Maria met kindje Jezus - 26.5 cm - Wood

Beautiful hand-carved wooden statue of Mary with the Child Jesus, also known as a Madonna with child. The statue is rendered in a stylized, elongated Art Deco style from France or Spain, circa 1930-1940.

Characteristics of the artwork

• Style: Modernist and Art Deco influences from the early to mid-20th century (circa 1930). It features clean, vertical lines and an expressive, somewhat cubist or folk-art facial expression.

• Symbolism: The statue radiates serenity, maternal love and protection. Mary wears a long mantle and holds the child close to her chest, pressed against her.

• Material: Hand-carved from a solid piece of hardwood with a warm, deep patina that beautifully accentuates the natural wood grain.
