Alphonse de Beauchamp’s *Histoire des campagnes de Napoléon 1814–1815* is a complete four-volume French set published in 1816–1817, partly in original edition and bound in leather.
Description from the seller
A fine historical and military set bringing together the four volumes of the History of the Campaigns of 1814 and 1815, written by Alphonse de Beauchamp, knight of the Legion of Honour.
Edition published in Paris by Le Normant, printer-bookseller, in 1816 and 1817.
The collection includes :
* Campaign of 1814, volumes I and II, 1816 — Second enlarged edition.
* Campaign of 1815, volumes I and II, 1817 — Original edition.
It is therefore an edition partly original, bringing together the narratives of the last two Napoleonic campaigns.
The author traces the political and military events that marked the fall of the First Empire, the invasion of France by the coalition armies, Napoleon’s abdication, the first Restoration, the Hundred Days and the final defeat of 1815.
The work constitutes a particularly interesting historical testimony, published only a few years after the events.
Bindings and condition:
The four volumes feature handsome, uniform antique bindings, with tawny leather spines, black title and volume pieces, and gilt ornaments and fillets.
The bindings retain a very decorative appearance, despite scuffing, cracking and signs of wear linked to their age.
The leather on the four spines is slightly dry and shows some weaknesses, to be handled with care.
The interiors are particularly fresh, very clean and remarkably well preserved for books dating from more than two centuries ago. Text perfectly readable and paper in good condition.
Unillustrated edition, without plates or maps, in accordance with the bibliographical descriptions of this edition.
Set of the four volumes corresponding to the two campaigns, 1814 and 1815.
