Description from the seller

Impressive, meticulously crafted bronze sculpture by the Belgian sculptor Auguste De Wever. (1836-1910).

Auguste De Wever was a Belgian sculptor and medalist who worked mainly in Brussels. He operated in the milieu of medalist Charles Wiener and created portrait figures, allegorical sculptures, monuments, and decorative bronze works. Among his best-known public works is the monument to the promoters of the Brussels port facilities.

Depicted is a young weaponsmith in a self-assured stance, with a delicately shaped piece in his hand. At his feet lie additional weapon and smithing works.

The realistic modeling, the finely worked facial features, and the natural stance give the figure a distinctive expressive quality.

The sculpture bears the signature "De Wever" as well as a historical French dedication from the employees of the H. Demoor workshops to their employer dated 21 October 1905.

Details:
* Material: Bronze
* Height: 65 cm, Width: 29 cm, Depth: 23 cm
