Description from the seller
HAL SUNDAY (1930) - 100% Handmade! - Acrylic painting · Signed by hand · 2026
A bust portrait on a deep blue background. A young woman with short hair, slicked back, holds against her a light garment that has just slid from her shoulders. Arms crossed over her chest, she looks us straight in the eyes. A sharp shadow splits her face in two.
The gesture is one of the oldest in painting: that of the modest Venus, from Antiquity to Botticelli, who covers herself the moment she is discovered. But here, no frightened modesty. The gaze is calm, frontal, almost a reply. She will decide alone the moment.
The side light, inherited from Caravaggio and Rembrandt, sculpts the shoulders and collarbones with broad, decisive strokes. The blue background makes the warmth of the skin vibrate.
Mixed technique: original acrylic painting, varnish.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 40 × 60 cm.
Signed HAL SUNDAY · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
HAL SUNDAY is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop and free figuration. Under the name HAL SUNDAY, the Atelier revives the hushed America of the 1930s–40s and the legacy of Edward Hopper: solitary figures, natural light that sculpts the moment, inhabited silences and restrained melancholy, in the lineage of American scene painting.
Each work is a unique piece.
