Description:
A refined and scenographic “cartouche” vase in fine hard-paste porcelain, a superb example of Parisian craftsmanship from the mid-19th century (circa 1850–1870), fully attributable to the eclectic taste of Jacob Petit.
The piece stands out for the complexity of the rocaille form, characterized by asymmetric volutes and jagged edges that evoke the dynamism of 18th-century Rococo. The body is embellished by the iconic Bleu Céleste background, made famous by Sèvres, creating a masterful contrast with the rich raised gold gilding, still vivid and bright.
Pictorial Details (Two-sided):
The vase features two hand-painted reserves of extraordinary quality:
Front: An idyllic pastoral scene that portrays a young traveler in period attire, set in a meticulously detailed bucolic landscape.
Back: A refined musical “trophy” depicting a mandolin intertwined with sheet music and floral garlands, a symbol of art and harmony.
Technical Data:
Origin: Paris, France (Vieux Paris).
Period: 19th Century (circa 1850).
Material: Hard-paste porcelain, sound and translucent.
Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm | Width 22.2 cm | Depth 14.5 cm.
Weight: approximately 985 g.
Condition: Excellent state of preservation. No chips, no hairlines, no restorations. Gilding intact with a very slight and noble patina of time.
