Description from the seller

Very beautiful seascape by the Antwerp painter Romain Steppe

Oil on canvas, recently professionally cleaned and varnished

50x70 cm
70x90 cm incl. frame

Romain Steppe, Antwerp 1859 - 1927. Romain Steppe is known for his seascapes, maritime scenes that he painted in a realistic style with an impressionistic touch.
Wrote (painted) a lot along the banks of the Scheldt, on the Belgian coast and in the Antwerp port. From his seascapes one sees his interest in the changing effects of light and the characteristics of sunlight according to the hour, the season and the weather. He later also painted in England, the Netherlands, Italy and France.
He returned to Antwerp in 1887, where in 1888 he became a member of the art society "Als ik Kan", founded by several former students of the Antwerp Academy. He was friends with E. Verhaeren and Isidoor Meyers, and often stayed in Sint-Amands.

The painting will be carefully packed but damage to the frame cannot be accepted

For a suitable fee the painting can also be delivered (in the Netherlands or Belgium)
