Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro-visual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recomposed by the artist. At a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made up of thousands of elements subtly intertwined. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law interrogates the fabrication of contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give birth to a coherent and unique work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by an authentication certificate. The prints are produced on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant coating, ensuring excellent durability, long-term stability of colors and a modern, contemporary look.
Biography
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual work, he develops an authorial and musical career comprising 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
