In Between Pages, the intimacy of reading becomes the starting point of a composition where the human figure, everyday objects, and the geometry of space establish a dialogue of notable poetic sensitivity. The work reinterprets the cubist legacy from a contemporary perspective, transforming a domestic scene into a reflection on time, contemplation, and the relationship between the outside world and inner experience.
The protagonist, depicted with a slightly inclined face and eyes closed or abstracted, seems to be immersed in a universe that transcends the pages of the book. Her figure, constructed through broad geometric planes and a deliberate simplification of anatomy, shares the foreground with a floral still life of marked sculptural presence. The red flowers, with angular forms and defined contours, introduce a visual energy that contrasts with the serenity of the character.
The composition rests on a balance between architectural verticals, diagonals, and carefully organized chromatic surfaces. Intense blues and turquoise dominate the scene, while vibrant reds, warm oranges, and delicate cream tones create points of tension and luminosity. The brushwork alternates between areas of solid color and more gestural interventions, lending vitality to the cubist structure.
Between Pages suggests that invisible space that exists between reality and imagination, where reading ceases to be a daily action to become an experience of inner freedom. The painting thus captures a moment of apparent quiet in which thought continues to expand beyond the limits of the image.
