In Two Versions, the female identity unfolds through a composition that questions the boundaries between individuality, likeness, and perception. The work reinterprets contemporary Cubist language through the depiction of two figures whose faces come close to sharing the same spatial structure, suggesting both an encounter between two people and the coexistence of different facets of a single identity.
The pictorial construction is articulated through overlapping geometric planes, stylized profiles, and a deliberate alteration of proportions. The figures, close yet psychologically distant, establish a silent dialogue that introduces a tension between intimacy and autonomy. In the foreground, the stringed instrument and the still-life elements extend the narrative dimension of the scene, linking human presence with a universe of everyday objects.
The color palette finds balance in the contrast between deep blues, intense oranges, bright whites, and black surfaces that delineate the different volumes. The alternation of vertical, diagonal, and curved lines creates a contained visual rhythm, while visible brushstrokes contribute an expressive sensitivity to the geometric organization of the composition.
Two Versions offers a reflection on the multiplicity of identity and the different ways of inhabiting the same reality. The protagonists can be understood as two independent presences or as manifestations of a single consciousness, leaving the viewer the possibility to construct their own interpretation of that ambiguous bond.
