Description from the seller
Canvas by Willem Kroon, 40/50 cm, in perfect condition.
Willem Kroon's artworks are extraordinarily striking and always feature a typically Dutch landscape with a beautifully ominous cloudscape and a stunning play of light.
Willem Kroon was a gifted painter, something of a grandmaster of the 20th century; his paintings clearly stand out above the rest.
Willem Kroon was born on 8 November 1946 in Utrecht. He attended the Free Academy in The Hague (1965-1966) for a short time, but at that time he did not feel happy as a painter.
After many jobs, Willem Kroon ended up as a technical assistant on an American drilling platform in the North Sea, where he was struck by a serious accident. In the rehabilitation center in Heerenveen he rekindled his love for painting, initially as occupational therapy and increasingly as a fulfillment of his daily work. After his recovery, he significantly improved the quality of his work through drawing and a lot of outdoor painting.
The famous Makkum pottery and the Frisian clocks also held his interest for some time, but he still felt these as too decorative and could not express himself in his own will to create. Oil painting changed this, and Willem Kroon, as an artist, had a strong future ahead of him. Unfortunately, Willem Kroon died prematurely in 2001 due to illness.
He was a member of 'The International Organisation of Free Art'.
