Description from the seller
Fleurigeon — Administrative Code — Paris, 1806 — 4 volumes — printed letter from Champagny évoating a presentation to His Majesté Emperor Napoleon I
Rare four-volume set of M. Fleurigeon’s Administrative Code, printed in Paris in 1806 by Valade’s printing shop and published by the author, Garnery and Fantin.
The work gathers, in alphabetical order, the new and old laws relating to administrative and police functions, as well as to prefects, sub-prefects, mayors, deputies, and police commissioners. The title page presents Fleurigeon as a head of office at the Ministry of the Interior. This collection testifies to the French administrative organization at the beginning of the First Empire and to the evolution of Napoleonic institutions.
A particularly remarkable passage
One of the volumes contains a printed letter attributed to Champagny. It ends with the line “Signed, Champagny” and indicates that the author intends to present this “useful enterprise” to “His Imperial Majesty the Emperor.”
This mention directly ties the work to the circle of power and to Napoleon I. Jean-Baptiste Nompère de Champagny, Duke of Cadore, was an important figure of the Napoleonic regime, notably Minister of the Interior and then of External Relations. The letter’s wording hints at the project of presenting the work to the Emperor.
