Biography of the artist:

Julián Helguera was born in Granada in 1950. A Spanish painter of figurative tradition, he developed a body of work mainly focused on still life, notable for his delicate compositions of fruit and everyday objects.

From a young age he showed a special sensibility for Spanish classical painting, especially for the masters of still life, whose influence he combined with a brighter and more contemporary interpretation.

His painting is characterized by a realism with a soft and slightly impasted brushstroke, a careful chromatic harmony and a particular mastery of light. His compositions, generally simple and balanced, feature vivid fruits on polished surfaces, creating delicate reflections and contrasts with neutral backgrounds.

Helguera paid special attention to textures, volumes and natural tones, managing to convey a sense of freshness and serenity. His works reflect an intimate vision of still life, in which the most everyday elements acquire notable pictorial elegance.

His style can be placed within Spanish figurative realism of the second half of the 20th century, with influences from the academic tradition and Mediterranean naturalism.
