Artist biography:
Ángel Uranga was born in Bilbao in 1948. A Spanish painter with a figurative tradition, he developed an artistic career focused mainly on landscape, with a particular fondness for port scenes, fishing villages, and picturesque corners of the Cantabrian and Mediterranean coasts.
From his early years he showed a great sensitivity to drawing and painting, particularly interested in the representation of light and the atmosphere of coastal landscapes. His artistic training was shaped by the influence of the Basque school of painting and the great masters of Spanish impressionism.
Throughout his career, Uranga developed a personal style of an impressionist and post-impressionist nature, characterized by loose, vigorous, and impasto brushwork, through which he captured the spontaneity and movement of the scenes depicted.
His compositions frequently feature fishing vessels, small ports, maritime façades, and reflections on the water, using a rich palette of bluish, gray, violet, and ochre tones, complemented by vivid color accents.
One of the most notable aspects of his painting is the treatment of light, which reflects on the surfaces of the water and the boats through quick and expressive brushstrokes, adding depth and vitality to his landscapes.
His work is part of the Spanish landscape tradition of the second half of the 20th century, combining naturalism with a free and luminous interpretation of the landscape. His paintings convey the serenity of small ports and the everyday beauty of maritime life.
