Hobby box - Wood, Bone

Vintage wooden box with a relief on the lid depicting an ancient sailing ship or galleon navigating the waves. Inside is a splendid and fascinating antique domino set for collection, dating back to the early 20th century. The tiles are crafted with the traditional technique of the era: the top part is made of precious organic material (bone or bovine ivory) with the classic carved and colored pips, mounted on a dark wooden base (ebony or period wood) fixed with a central brass pin.

Excellent vintage condition. The tiles show the normal and fascinating signs of age that attest to its authenticity and period: natural grain and light wear. One tile has a black damaged section. The set comprises 28 tiles.

The domino game originated in China but reached Europe in the 17th century, initially spreading in Italy and France.
