The Macallan Edition No. 5 is a celebrated limited-edition release that explores the distillery’s unique approach to whisky-making and its mastery of wood. Released in 2019, Edition No. 5 celebrates the complexity of natural color and the intricate science behind selecting the perfect casks.
For this specific expression, Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker partnered with the world-renowned color experts at the Pantone Color Institute to create a unique, bold purple packaging, symbolizing the complexity and precision of the whisky-blending process.
Unlike many of Macallan's traditional releases that rely heavily on European sherry seasoned oak, Edition No. 5 is matured exclusively in 100% American oak casks, specifically chosen for their exquisite flavor profile and beautiful pale amber color.
Tasting Notes:
• Nose: Intense aroma of vanilla and sweet toffee, accompanied by notes of fresh oak, nutmeg, ginger, and hints of lemon basil and pear.
• Palate: Fresh and sweet on the palate with flavors of caramel moving into poached peaches and ripe pear. Followed by a wave of oak spices (nutmeg and ginger) with a subtle herbal undertone.
• Finish: Long, sweet, and lingering.
Condition Report:
• Bottle & Fill Level: The bottle is in excellent, clean condition. The capsule and front labels are fully intact and show no signs of tearing or fading. The fill level is excellent, sitting securely in the neck/high shoulder.
• Box / Packaging: The original Pantone limited-edition purple box is included. The corners, edges, and structural integrity of the outer carton are fully intact with no major dents, deep creases, or heavy scuffing visible.
