Description from the seller
Sam Schellink (1876-1958) - Holland's pasture landscape with grazing cows near a farm
Description
Beautiful and atmospheric Dutch pasture landscape by the well-known artist Sam Schellink (1876-1958).
In this characteristic, broadly laid-out work we see three cattle, depicted in detail, quietly grazing in an expansive polder landscape. On the right in the background stands an idyllic farm with a distinctive tree, flanked by a soft, layered cloudscape that is typical for Dutch painting from this period.
Sam Schellink is primarily known as one of the leading Delft/Haag school plateel painters of the famous Haagse Rozenburg factory, where he excelled in refined Art Nouveau décors. In addition, he was a very skilled painter, watercolourist and draughtsman. This work perfectly shows his great compositional strength and his ability to capture light and atmosphere on the Dutch countryside.
Details:
• Artist: Sam Schellink (1876-1958)
• Representation: Three grazing cows by a farm
• Signature: Signature lower right present
• Frame: Framed in an authentic, matching dark wooden frame with a subtle grain structure
• Condition: The work and the frame are in good, original vintage condition with light signs of age consistent with the period (see photos for an accurate impression). The piece is protected behind glass.
A beautiful and timeless work by a sought-after Dutch master, perfect for lovers of classic Dutch landscape art and for collectors of Haagse plateel-related artists.
Tips for the other Catawiki fields:
• Period: First half of the 20th century (or specifically the period in which it was made if you know the exact date).
• Technique: Indicate here whether it is oil on canvas/board, a watercolour or a mixed technique (this is hard to determine from the photo, but appears to be a watercolour, gouache or litho/reproduction behind glass).
• Dimensions: Measure the frame (height x width) accurately and add them.
To make the description even more complete: do you happen to know the exact dimensions or the technique (such as oil paint or watercolour)? Then I will add that directly in the correct place for you!
