Description from the seller
Splendid and imposing oil painting on canvas created between the 1950s and 1960s (mid-20th century), by the painter E. Szyttniuk, an artist of Ukrainian origin and a representative of the Eastern European landscape school of the twentieth century. The composition, with a grand scenic breadth thanks to its generous dimensions, depicts a suggestive and luminous Alpine landscape inspired by the great European mountain ranges. In the foreground, the artist masterfully describes with an energetic, rich, and thick brushstroke a swift stream winding among rocks, accompanied by a characteristic wooden railing with a rustic footbridge. In the background, perfectly set in verdant valleys, stand typical mountain huts (chalets) dominated by rocky peaks and a sky partially cloudy rendered with great realism. The work stands out for its excellent chromatic rendering, the contrast between the cool tones of the water and the warm tones of the vegetation, and the richness of the details typical of mid-century East‑European landscape production. The work is presented in overall good condition consistent with its age, with slight and normal signs of time on the painted surface that attest to its authenticity. The large contemporaneous wooden frame is included in the lot as a courtesy.
