In Visual Polyphony, the portrait is transformed into a complex construction of identities, gazes, and simultaneous perspectives, where the human figure abandons its conventional unity to become a territory of plastic experimentation. The work develops a contemporary cubist language that dialogues with the investigations of Pablo Picasso and with the symbolic dimension of Wifredo Lam’s hybrid figures.
The composition is articulated through the overlay of fragmented faces, eyes of different proportions, and geometric profiles that seem to coexist within the same structure. The gazes, distributed across different planes, generate a sense of vigilance and psychological movement, while angular forms and pronounced curves establish a tension between the human and the abstract. Each fragment retains a degree of autonomy, yet participates in a collective identity that challenges traditional portrait perception.
The color palette, dominated by deep blues, bright turquoises, intense reds, and warm oranges, builds a system of contrasts with notable expressive force. Black outlines define the separate surfaces, while visible brushstrokes and texture variations add dynamism to the composition. The alternation of vertical planes and circular shapes creates a visual rhythm reminiscent of the simultaneous organization of different musical voices.
Poliphony plays in its title a metaphor for multiplicity: just as several melodic lines can coexist within a single composition, different faces and perspectives are integrated here into a single image. The painting invites reflection on identity as a plural, changing reality open to infinite interpretations.
