Description from the seller
YUNI R. P.'s painting is built from a direct, physical relationship with matter. Working mainly with oil on canvas and discarding the brush in favor of a spatula, the artist develops a pictorial surface where color does not merely describe the image: it acquires volume, direction, and movement.
The spatula allows him to deposit, drag, and layer the oil through broad, decisive gestures. From this procedure emerge surfaces of considerable material- chromatic richness, where colors are partially on the canvas without completely losing their individuality. This characteristic is one of the most recognizable elements of his language: intense blues, turquoise, solar yellows, oranges, reds, and whites appear confronted and intermeshed in a highly luminous palette.
Although his production includes landscapes, gardens, figures, and urban scenes, in recent years the sea has become one of the major axes of his painting. Sails, ports, shores, reflections, and horizons repeatedly appear, transformed by a gaze that privileges sensory experience over meticulous description. His residence in Havana and the everyday proximity to the coastal landscape thus find a natural reflection in his imagination.
Formally, his work dialogues with certain principles of impressionism and post-impressionism: capturing changing light, chromatic fragmentation, and the will to convey an impression rather than a photographic reproduction of the subject. In some of his seascapes there is even an apparent affinity with the luminist tradition of Joaquín Sorolla, particularly in the interest in the glow of the water and in the way whites, blues, and yellows turn the marine surface into a space of light. It is not imitation, but an affinity within a long tradition of artists fascinated by the relationship between sea, color, and luminosity.
However, YUNI R. P. takes that tradition toward a painting that is more materially emphatic. The trace of the spatula remains visible and turns each color plane into a small structure. Up close, the painting can approach abstraction; from a distance, those stains and directions reorganize into sails, reflections, vegetation, figures, or horizons. That tension between abstraction and representation is one of the most appealing aspects of his work.
Photographs can barely convey this character fully. In front of the canvas, the relief of the oil and the changes produced by the incidence of light give the works a presence and a depth that exceed the two-dimensional image. The result is an immediate, vigorous, and recognizable painting, characterized by strong chromatic energy and by a deeply optimistic view of the landscape.
The public trajectory of Yuniesky Rodríguez Peña includes solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and a presence of his work in international private collections. His work has also been disseminated internationally through platforms and organizations dedicated to contemporary art. His works are collected in several European countries at both private and institutional levels.

This fascinating oil-on-canvas work transports the viewer to the romantic heart of a Venice at night, where the dark canals come to life through a masterful game of warm lights and deep shadows. The composition is structured by textured, dynamic brushstrokes that expertly capture the golden reflections of street lamps and lit windows on the bluish water, creating an enveloping atmosphere charged with mystery. In the center of the scene, the subtle silhouette of a gondola gently glides along the current, evoking a sense of timelessness and poetic stillness that invites intimate contemplation. The rich chromatic contrasts and the vibrant pictorial texture reaffirm the piece’s technical prowess, making it an exceptional and sophisticated addition for any contemporary art collector interested in capturing the luminous essence of classic urban landscapes.
