Description from the seller
This platter is an exceptional piece, entirely handmade in genuine thuya burl, one of the world's most precious and sought-after woods, sourced exclusively from Morocco.
Its surface features remarkable marquetry: hundreds of small burl elements, cut into diamonds and assembled one by one, form a geometric cube motif with a 3D effect. Depending on the viewing angle and light, the volumes seem to recede and protrude, for a striking result. In the center, delicate inlays of natural mother-of-pearl add a discreet and refined touch of sparkle to the whole.
The flecks, tiny knots and swirls visible on each element are neither painted nor drawn: they are the fruit of nature itself and appear naturally in the burl. Each small diamond possesses its own nuances of amber, honey, copper, and mahogany, which makes each platter unique and impossible to reproduce.
Thuya burl is a true rarity. It grows slowly in the trunk and roots of old trees, often centuries old, and it takes decades, even centuries, for it to reach a size sufficient to work. Only a tiny portion of trees produce it, making it a rare, limited material that is increasingly hard to find.
The platter is edged with solid thuya borders, with two integrated handles to facilitate grip and serving. The marquetry work, very long and meticulous, requires cabinetmaking craftsmanship and great precision: each piece is fitted perfectly so that the assembly is harmonious.
Another asset: thuya emits a natural, warm, and pleasant woody scent that delicately fills its surroundings. An authentic fragrance, characteristic of this noble wood, that endures over time.
This platter can be used daily to serve, display, or store, or shown as a true decorative piece, placed on a coffee table, a sideboard, or hung on the wall. Between a useful object and a work of art, it will bring a touch of luxury and character to your interior. A beautiful acquisition for lovers of fine materials, marquetry, and exemplary craftsmanship.
