Description from the seller
This oil painting on canvas by the artist Ruben van Veen is intended as an expression of longing for an arcadian life. A reference to the painting “Luxe, Calme et Volupté” by the French painter Matisse.
The painting is well and safely packaged and shipped with care.
Ruben van Veen (born 1960) lives and works in the Netherlands and studied drawing and painting at the Volksuniversiteit in Gouda and the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. He has been exhibiting since 1992. His work is included in museum and private collections. In 2016, the catalog “Ruben van Veen / Drawings Paintings Cardboard” appeared, a selection of his work from 1994–2016.
General information:
Ruben van Veen makes drawings, paintings and works on cardboard in a figurative, intuitive method wherein the unconscious forms an important part of the creative process.
Without a preconceived plan he starts with a piece. Then there always appears a human figure. Usually accompanied by an animal, a fruit, an everyday object. This combination of images gives a glimpse into a bizarre world. The leading theme in the work is the human being and the complex social relationship that people have with each other. It is about desires and fears and shows the fine line between seducing and repulsing, harmony and conflict, tenderness and fighting.
Not without irony does he attempt to visualize the riddle of life and he is in search of a constantly shifting ideal of beauty.
