AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
A rare and beautiful pyritized ammonite from the United Kingdom.
During rapid burial on the oxygen-deprived seabed, sulfate-reducing bacteria replaced the organic matter with iron sulfide (pyrite), preserving exquisite details such as ribs and suture lines.
An authentic fossil from the Jurassic period, composed entirely of pyrite.
Only pyritized ammonites from the United Kingdom are stable.
The mine is now closed, and these specimens are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find.
