Skepa’s original mixed-media work « Intelligence artificielle » is hand-signed and measures 65 × 50 cm.
Description from the seller
This artwork is called “Artificial Intelligence.” Yet, it was entirely made by hand, in my workshop.
Why this title, then?
Because at a time when some present AI-generated images as paintings made by hand, dress their digital prints with the words “mixed media” or “giclée,” then add two brushstrokes to sell them as “unique works,” I want to turn the game around. Some even go so far as to display the label “100% handmade.”
If they can pass off a machine-generated and printed image as a manually painted work, why couldn’t I call my painting “Artificial Intelligence”?
My title poses a question. Their presentation fuels confusion.
Wordplay, twisted minds, reality distorted. The world is in a bad state, impostors are among us. Here, only intelligence is artificial: the painting, it is very real.
Unique work – Certificate of authenticity provided.
Original work on linen canvas, wooden frame with keys.
Skepa is a French artist born in 1978, painter and sculptor, cofounder of the BAFO movement.
Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, he began his artistic practice with graffiti with Jone Hopper in the early 1990s.
His work is part of a free and instinctive approach, nourished by urban culture and contemporary plastic research.
Over the years, his painting evolves toward a rougher, more expressive writing, mixing abstraction, free figuration and the energy of gesture.
Known for a singular and immediately identifiable universe, Skepa develops a powerful and vibrant body of work, regularly presented on the international art market.
