VITYRA - Biff

Biff
Oil and acrylic on canvas
100 cm x 140 cm (39 inches x 55 inches)

Biff looks as though he has just been asked a question he wasn’t expecting. His tilted head, dramatically unequal eyes and small parted lips give him a disarming expression, while his broad shoulders and straight arms suggest he is determined to remain composed.

Painted in a contemporary neo-naïve style, the work combines exaggerated proportions with economical drawing and visible brushwork. An expansive ochre hat stretches across the dark background, its pale stripes echoed in the deep navy trousers. A vivid green lower field brings energy to the composition and sharpens the contrast with the ivory figure.

Part of an ongoing series of individual characters, Biff finds humour in the tension between an imposing silhouette and an uncertain expression. His awkward stillness gives the portrait a particular warmth.
