Anonymous, Question de amor, is a Spanish-language book published by Juan Bautista Pedrezano in 1533.
Description from the seller
Bound in full leather with raised bands and headband, 12º, 129 folioed leaves. Front cover printed in two colors, gilded edges, profusion of woodcut vignettes. The main board cover is split, detached from the book. There is a small ink stain on the rear cover. Otherwise, the book can be considered in very good condition, with an immaculate interior.
The work contains two ex-librīs, one of them belonging to Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton, one of the greatest collectors of books of the era. The book belonged to the family until it was auctioned in 1884 by Sotheby’s, reaching a value of 20 pounds of the period. It was bound by Francis Bedford, one of the finest binders of the nineteenth century.
This extraordinarily rare bibliographic jewel by anonymous authorship from 1533 is one of the most fascinating Spanish printings produced in Venice by the influential bookseller Juan Bautista Pedrezano. The work, a famous and influential anonymous sentimental novel (sometimes attributed to the circle of courtiers of the period), poses a refined chivalric debate between two lovers: one whose beloved has died and another who serves without hope of reward.
