Chilean artist Andrés Monreal developed a distinctive visual language combining figuration, surrealism and theatre. His background as an actor and set designer is reflected in his paintings, where human figures inhabit timeless, carefully staged settings.
Influenced by artists such as Giorgio de Chirico, Monreal combined technical refinement with a strong sense of atmosphere. Working with oils, pastels and translucent glazes, he created rich textures and subtle depth. His paintings invite the viewer into a quiet, enigmatic world where reality and imagination merge.
Monreal lived and worked primarily in Europe, including Madrid, Paris and Ibiza. From 1972 onwards, he devoted himself entirely to painting.
