Description from the seller
Molenaar, Johannes Petrus "Joop". Born April 29, 1914 (Rotterdam) – died 1990 (Rotterdam). Molenaar made many drawings when, between his 15th and 16th years, he worked as a sailor with the Rotterdam Lloyd and later with Van Ommeren. In 1930 he changed careers and went to the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, where he received lessons from, among others, Aart Bijl, who encouraged the young Joop to devote himself to drawing and painting ships and harbours. Molenaar lived and worked in Rotterdam, where his specialization earned him a place among the “harbour painters.” He was a member of the Rotterdam Art Association. J.P. Molenaar painted, on commission, the Zuiderzee Works and the closure of the Lauwerszee.
