Meyer Fils & Cie. open-face pocket watch, model Open face - 1896 en 1910, reference 323350, dating from 1850–1900, with a manual movement and silver case.
Description from the seller
Antique open-face pocket watch (with a silver case, outer cover and inner cover) from the early 20th century, complete with a matching gold-colored watch chain and winding key.
- The circular mark at the bottom of the movement is that of the Swiss watchmaker Meyer Fils & Cie. of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
- Text: The outer circle bears the Latin motto “NEC PLUS ULTRA” (meaning “the very best” or “nothing surpasses this”).
- Registration: This specific trademark was officially registered in Switzerland on February 3, 1896, for watches, movements and parts.
- 0.800 in a shield with a crown (on the right). This fineness is also known as “coin silver” or “third-grade silver.”
- The crescent moon and crown (Reichssilberstempel) were mandatory from 1888; this indicates the German market or import via Germany.
- Chain and key: The accompanying chain is often made of gold-plated metal (rolled gold) or brass, and the small key indicates that this is an older key-wound model (or that the key is intended for setting the time/winding the watch from the back).
- Owner’s inscription: The name “Ernest Demaret” is hand-engraved in the center of the first cover, together with the name “Ricalaura” (which presumably refers to a specific place name, farm or region of origin, as “Rica-laura” or “Ricalaura” may be an old French-speaking/Walloon toponymic reference).
- J.C (at the top) is the maker’s mark. 90 grams and 4.7 cm in diameter.
Will be carefully packaged and sent by registered mail.
