Description from the seller
Vladimir Yakoubovitch — Vertical Composition with Arabesques
Graphite on paper, 1994.
Signed and dated “94” (1994) at the lower right.
Country of origin: Russia.
Dimensions: height 42 cm × width 29.5 cm (portrait format).
Period: 1990s.
On a brown ground, arabesques and geometric fragments are arranged along a vertical axis. The flowing curves alternate with points and oblique lines, creating a lively, airy rhythm. Variations in the density of the drawing allow the color of the ground to play a full part in the overall balance.
The contrast between the gray marks and the brown tone of the ground is an essential element of the work’s effect. More heavily drawn lines punctuate the lighter areas, while blank spaces separate the forms. Graphite allows for these variations in intensity and precision, from a light touch to a more pronounced line.
Condition: good. Irregular lower edge, folds and visible marks in the lower section; occasional marks on the ground.
Vladimir Yakoubovitch is a 20th-century artist. A 2007 auction catalogue places him in Montparnasse after the war and mentions his participation in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. His graphic work explores the relationships between curved forms, angular structures, and spaces left blank.
Artwork sold unframed.
