Description from the seller
I am offering for auction a very rare vintage Omega wristwatch dating from the second half of the 1930s.
The watch is in excellent condition and comes with its original period box. All identifying details have been historically verified against the official Omega archives and are clearly visible in the attached photos.
Dial:
Beautiful original period “Sector Dial” with inner and outer geometric railway-track minute markers, Arabic numerals, and small seconds counter at 6 o’clock.
Movement:
Manual-winding mechanical movement, Omega in-house caliber 26.5SOB T2, with 15 jewels. The movement is stamped with serial number 8,235,610, which places the mechanism’s production in the Omega archives in 1934–19354.
Case:
Made of high-strength “Acier Staybrite” steel. The snap-on case back bears the Omega Fab. Suisse mark and case serial number 9.097528. In the Omega archives, this case number corresponds to the period 1938–1939.
Historical note on the period-matching components:
Experts should note that, according to Omega’s pre-1986 production methods, the serial number records for movements and cases were completely independent. It was standard factory practice to produce movements in batches (1935) and case them later, at the time of sale (1938–1939).
The watch is therefore entirely consistent, period-correct, and was originally made in this configuration in the late 1930s.
Included:
The watch comes with its original period Omega box, with the external “Swiss Made/Fabrication Suisse” lettering well preserved.
Additional notes:
The blue leather strap and pin buckle are neither period-correct nor original.
P.S.
The watch is, of course, working.
