Melas rugs (also spelled Milas) are among the best-known and most fascinating traditional Anatolian village rugs. They come from the region around the historic city of Milas (ancient name: Mylasa) in Muğla Province in southwestern Turkey, not far from the Aegean coast.
These rugs have been woven and knotted entirely by hand by women in the surrounding mountain villages for centuries. They are particularly famous among collectors for their unique color palette and distinctive, almost modern geometry.
