Leo Setz

The painter Clement van Vlaardingen, son of painter Derk van Vlaardingen (1890-1958), one of the members of the extensive Dutch painters family Van Vlaardingen.
Clement was a versatile painter: He applied many experimental and innovative techniques in his work, with which he created his own style.
His work is mainly impressionistic and was painted with broad and bold brush strokes. Especially in his Italian impressions, Van Vlaardingen used color tones that were fierce in nature. The palette knife was his favourite tool.
Van Vlaardingen was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and St. Lucas in Amsterdam and of the Vereeniging Beeldende Kunst Laren - Blaricum. He worked and lived for art and was very individualistic.
He has also taught his cousin
painter Dick van Vlaardingen (born 1947).
