American portable tube radio from 1939; so 81 years old. The text blocks looks superb. The Philco Model 71 (chassis) is a radio that works on batteries, called ‘The Traveler’. The cabinet is of the model 39-72, sometimes the cabinet and chassis underwent minor modifications. AM, Superheterodyne. Tubes: 1A7, 1N5, 1H5, 1C5. The original price was $29.00. In 1939, people wanted to follow the news everywhere about the political situation in Europe, so it is portable, independent of mains voltage or external antenna.

Designed for use of 45 V batteries in series to reach 90 volts and another separate 1.5 V battery. Could work with a ‘block’ of 10 batteries of 9V in series.

This PHILCO radio is really something for the collector or technician. The device looks especially ‘vintage’, made in the United States.

Dimensions: Height 20 cm, width 35 cm and depth 19.5 cm.
Weight: approx. 4.4 kg. A ‘tube plan’ is present inside the cabinet.
