Corneille (1922-2010) - Oiseaux en fête

This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the painter!

Original lithograph by the painter Guillaume Corneille born in Liège of Dutch parents and founding member of the Cobra movement.

Dimensions: 72 x 56cm
Signed and dated in white pencil by the artist

This lithograph is part of the "Venus upside down" series. A traveling painter, Corneille makes reference to African birds and the Black Venus. As a Master of color in the wake of Gauguin and Matisse, he creates a striking image where one seems to see the painter's touch up close, made visible thanks to technical precision work on the lithographic plate.

Identified as an important figure in the renewal of abstraction in Northern Europe, Corneille gradually moved from 1967 towards a rich and colorful New Figuration that coordinated with the Pop Art taste of the 1960s and 1970s, and exhibited in alongside Andy Warhol, Arman, Caesar, etc.
