Bord als protest tegen de kettinghandel in de Eerste Wereldoorlog. 

Het bord zelf is vervaardigd door de Société Céramique te Maastricht Holland (zie fabrieksmerk op de achterzijde). Het is met koudlak techniek beschilderd door Sierkunst Nijmegen. Het ontwerp wordt toegeschreven aan J.H. de Groot.

Dit bord met een diameter van ruim 21 cm laat - in koudlak techniek - de Nederlandse vlag zien met de jaartallen 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917 en 1918. Ook zijn de schakels van een ketting geschilderd, als symbool van de kettinghandel.
Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog kreeg het neutrale Nederland te kampen met ernstige schaarste aan levensmiddelen, brandstoffen en tal van andere goederen. De prijzen schoten de pan uit door de zogenoemde kettinghandel (tussenhandel).

Pas ver na het sluiten van de vrede, ingezet door de Franse generaal Foch en de Amerikaanse president Wilson, daalde de prijzen.

Het bord is uitgevoerd in de art nouveau stijl en verkeert en goede staat. Zie foto's, die deel uitmaken van de omschrijving.
