Single Italian wooden Sorrento box with inlaid wood, dating to 1950–1960, measuring 10 × 10 × 8 cm.
Description from the seller
Important Sorrento jewelry box.
Italian production, widespread in southern Italy, specializing in the crafting of refined antique furniture and objects, known as Smith furniture, for woods and inlays.
It can be seen from the type of inlay work and the color of the wood that it is not a 1940s reproduction but an original box from the late 1800s.
Recent ones indeed have a shiny patina, and the inlays are superior with lighter colors. They have a layer of varnish coating on top.
The large-sized box measures 18 cm in length, 10 cm in width, and 8 cm in height. It features a lace of inlays on the top and on all four side panels. The opening part is also inlaid.
It is characterized by the use of walnut and honey-colored wood and features a set of hieroglyphics on the entire upper part, covering the length and width of the box, as well as on the side panels.
I would say it is carefully crafted in every aspect—a lace of inlays, a work by skilled cabinetmakers of a bygone era.
There are garlands that circle around the box and dragons. It is a lacework of inlay on every point.
The interior part is not coated but is natural color.
It is very distinctive and differs from others because it is tall and has three compartments. In fact, the typical ones with a lid are common, but this one is a rarity.
The upper ones are squares measuring 9 cm by 9 cm; the one at the bottom is as long as the box.
Inside, there is a small oval mirror.
The photos are illustrative to showcase the beauty and delicacy of the inlays. They show signs of age; a very important object to be used as decor in any environment, whether as a jewelry box, for storing objects, or simply placed alone on a piece of furniture.
For shipping, I always use private couriers instead of postal services so that the item has better protection in the packaging, with bubble wrap and sponge, placed in a box, arriving sooner and making communication easier.
It is in good maintenance condition.
The interior is not covered but left in its natural wood state.
For box collectors or lovers of special objects.
For shipping, I use private couriers instead of postal services because they arrive faster and allow for double packaging.
Shipping costs vary depending on regions: Europe Zone 1 or 2, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern European countries, and Zone 3, such as Norway, Malta, and Cyprus, as well as the rest of the world.
The customs duties will be the responsibility of the buyer.
