ST. NICHOLAS The Miracle Worker
Impressive Russian Icon, Early 19th-Century circa 1830.
The saint portrayed frontal, half-length, facing the onlooker while blessing and displaying the open Gospels, Christ and his Mother floating on clouds, the first one offering to the saint the Book of Gospels and the second the Episcopal stole, the features of the saint rendered delicately, his garments depicted in a folk style. The partly and richly gilded silver oklad with rich floral repoussé motifs and openwork foliate border. (Possibly: Astrakhan-1823-Assay-master: Vasily Peretrutov-84 zolotniki)
Hand-painted. Good and 'solid' condition, consistent with an item of this age (~200yrs).
Purchased in NYC at a globally renowned auction house.
