A stunning folio rescued from what was once a fine quality but now disbound and water damaged Koran, dated 1751. 

The folio page is sprinkled with gold and consists of 12 lines of fine naskh script, separated after the 9th line of verse by a 'Surah' heading in gold cloud with white ornamental Thuluth script within it. The lines of naskh script are separated by broken clouds of gold (see image 3) with the breaks supporting devotional markings in red. There are 11 'aya', 6 in the upper script and 5 in the lower script, indicating that this probably came towards the end of the Koran. The 'aya' are a simple gold circle with a black line circumference with no sub-division circumference marking. The page is miniature indicating that this would have been a travelling companion of a devotee. As the quality is so fine this may have been the companion of an important person. the script is contained within an inner golf margin and there is a thicker outer gold margin frame. Outside this is a wonderful floral design in gold surrounding the scripture (detail 1 shows this best). 

The mount is there to support the folio, but could be used as a backing mount for framing. The size shown is for the illuminated manuscript.
