Ecloga Quinta - 1500

Vergilius - The Ecloga Quinta is the fifth of the ten Eclogues from Virgil’s pastoral poetry collection, also known as the Bucolica or Eclogues, which were composed between 42 and 39 BCE. Virgil’s Eclogues are a series of ten pastoral poems that depict idyllic rural scenes and often contain underlying allegories about contemporary Roman politics and society.

The Ecloga Quinta (Fifth Eclogue) focuses on a theme of mourning and lament, particularly centered around the character Daphnis, a young shepherd who has passed away. His death prompts a deep, emotional outpouring from the other shepherds.
