AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pierre Gontard. Provence. FRANCE. 1927. This excellent painting by the painter Pierre Gontard is up for auction. This striking work belongs to the 1960s and, influenced by the extraordinary work of the great Vincent van Gogh during his stay at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence asylum (after the psychotic episode he suffered in Arles, towards the end of 1889), Gontard devoted himself to painting the landscapes of the Alpilles in Provence. In much of his work, this artist painted olive trees and lavender—plants very characteristic of the southeastern French region.
In this lovely oil, the protagonists appear as the main elements of the composition: a pair of solitary olive trees integrated into a typical regional landscape. Here, the brushstrokes “sculpt” decisively the outlines of the sinuous trunks of the two trees, and they also have the fervor and the honest simplicity bequeathed to us by the great Dutch genius, who died in Auvers-sur-Oise, a town very close to Paris, on July 28, 1890.

The oil is accompanied by a frame measuring 77 x 67 cm, which gives the whole a sober harmony.

The frame should be regarded as a gift for the buyer, so the seller is not responsible for any hypothetical damage it may suffer in transit.
