St.George & The Dragon solid silver Baptism spoon 
Circa 1890 Norwegian silver 

DA silversmith, David Andersen

A quality Norwegian solid silver baptism spoon. It is hallmarked with the 830 standard mark along with the makers mark of DA. I would ate this piece to c1890. It has been very nicely designed with the terminal being cast in the form of St George and the Dragon
Originally these may simply have been representations of the battle between good and evil. But the story was developed and popularised in the Middle Ages in a compendium of stories about saints' lives, The Golden Legend.
When George arrived in town, he told the people that he would kill the dragon if they all agreed to go to the church to be baptized and become Christians. The people agreed, so George kept his word and killed the dragon. The king was so happy that he built a new church on the spot where the dragon was killed.

On the back side there is an inscription, we don t know from who this belongs.
