Description from the seller
This is a very heavy pure linen bed linen.
it is one of three bed linen which again come from
the same source as all the others we have recently shown.
The French Bourgeoisie family, who reside not far from where I live,
have been left large quantities of both magnificent bed and table linen
by various generations from both sides. The children, grand and great children are
not interested as it means far too much work for them to wash, starch and iron.
We have been able to discover , through the inventory ledger, the provenance of each bed linen
and it is like a puzzle.
This bed linen came from the grandparents from the ladies side.
The large initials M.C. stand for Jean-Marie & Catherine.
They have been embroidered in high relief and each initial is interlaced with a small
token of flora, a sign that this would have been marriage linen.
The open thread work border is a simplevariant of the Ajour de Venise which were so popular
in the early 20th Century.
What always makes this kind of bed linen stand out are the edgings and this bed linen
is no exception with the richly festooned scallops which are so well embroidered in high relief
and give the bedlinen this extra panache!
The scallops and open thread work, is quite magnificent and are both in immaculate order.
One can immediately notice that these bed linen rarely decked the beds, because if not,
particularly the open thread work by now would be completely damaged.
As a rule much simpler bed linen would be used on a daily basis also because of the
intensive washing procedures which were complex in those days.
These are rare pieces and the reserve prices reflect this
Vintage linen have already known a first life and can therefore have slight traces of the past.
We select the items in the best possible way, with love and dedication.
Honest descriptions and images gives a real vision of the items.
The linen that we offer for sale is not new linen, unless specifically mentioned, it is second-hand and old linen.
As such it may have already been washed, used or even worn.
In spite of the great care we take during the preparation, small imperfections can and may escape us.
They do not in any way call into question the unique and rare character of these wonderful pieces.
I present you our French Antique linen unwashed, as taken out of the armoire, unless otherwise described . It is all clean, but plan to give it a wash before use.
Please be aware of the above before you bid and buy.
Thank you for taking this into account
